When a cluster develops dead segments, a stuck stepper motor or a cluster that stops communicating, the whole unit is normally replaced rather than repaired.
Cluster listings are matched by part number and by the configuration stored in them: mileage, option content, transmission type and market all vary the software. Some units need programming to the vehicle after fitting, and the listing notes where the manufacturer requires it.
Senders and gauges are simpler: match the thread, the resistance range and the connector, and check the ground at the cluster before condemning the sender.
